@JacobsBen on Rice: “Now, Arsenal need to agree a deal with West Ham - that’s the only thing that matters in all of this. There is a third bid incoming, it might go in TODAY, certainly by midweek. If it’s good enough, Declan Rice will be an Arsenal player.” [@TFTerrace] #afc

@FabrizioRomano: "Romeo Lavia is in Arsenal’s list and they had some positive conversation on the club and player side, but still no official bid.
"We know the priority is to resolve other stuff like Timber, Rice and many others. Of course, Havertz will be official.
"But it's important to say that Romeo Lavia remains in the Arsenal list as one of the players they appreciate, and are waiting to understand the future of Thomas Partey, who is prioritizing European clubs over Saudi clubs at the moment.

@FabrizioRomano: "We heard a lot about an official Manchester City bid for Declan Rice, and it could still happen, but also Arsenal plan to submit a third proposal for the West Ham United captain this week.
"The race remains open between Man City and Arsenal, waiting for the bids and also for West Ham position. Payment terms will also be important, West Ham want big money paid now and not in four or five instalments.
"As I revealed a couple of days ago, contacts have taken place between City and Rice on the player side. Mikel Arteta has been trying his best to sign Rice for Arsenal, but City are still there as well. Nothing is decided yet, but we could have a crucial few days ahead." [via @caughtoffside]

Mikel Arteta on Ødegaard’s ‘star’ season: “I think that is his merit. His self-motivation is brutal, he understands everything very well & learns quickly. We help him by giving him responsibility & confidence by making him captain, I explained it to him, ‘With this will come more demand & your ability to transmit will be key, be you’, I told him.”
“Martin is very reserved, but when he speaks, you listen to him. He does everything that is required - he takes care of himself, he cares about others & improves them, he has education, love for the game, commitment.”
“He believes he has to play closer to the penalty area, touch it less & get there more. His numbers are very good, the interior [midfield] player with the most goals in the history of the Premier League along with Lampard. He can still improve at 24.”

@RyanTaylorSport on Arsenal interest in Lavia: “I know they’ve been discussing personal terms with his agent & Lavia, who would be 100 per cent open to joining Arsenal & it does look like there’s concrete interest, but at this moment in time, the price tag will have to drop.”

Mikel Arteta: “I have only been in this [profession] for four years & my goal is to be the best in the world, not on an absolute personal level, but to be the best coach in the world for Arsenal, to help these players & this club to be the best, play better than anyone.” [@marca]
Mikel Arteta on ‘outspending’ Manchester City recently: “It depends on what is evaluated, net worth or investment in one year, in three [years] or in 10 years? Or that you also value salaries? The point of investment is one & the revaluation perhaps matters more - how much a player you buy is worth within ‘x’ years. There is investment with return & revaluation. That’s our strategy to sustain ourselves.” [@marca] #afc
Mikel Arteta on if Saka would cost more than €100m in today’s market: “I have no idea. There are the machines that you put in all the data & variables & they give you the price.” [@marca] #afc

Mikel Arteta on if he detected what was wrong: “I had it very clear. I drew a tree & its roots & I said that the problem was ours. We have to cure all that & cure it with people who got involved. Without that, there would be no fun for the public.” [@marca] #afc
Mikel Arteta on if he sees The Arsenal winning the Premier League in 2024: "If not, I wouldn't be sitting here. That is our ambition. We know the difficulty: it's the best league in the world and next season is going to be the most difficult league in the history of the Premiership. Why? It already was last year."
"I've been here for 22 years and I've never seen a competitive level like that. So much quality, so much organization, so many resources, so many good coaches... and now Pochettino and Iraola arrive. That's the level and to win the Premier League you have to be the best. That's why you have to strengthen." [@marca]
Mikel Arteta on Declan Rice: "I can't talk about players who are not in the club. I prefer not to say anything." [@marca]
Arteta on Arsenal budget: “We already made a refresh of the squad. We’re now together with owners to build a winning team that could be sustainable for long term”. #AFC
“We need important players and we’ll attack the market to sign those who we need”, told @marca.
Kai Havertz is set to be unveiled as a new Arsenal player sometime next week and Mikel Arteta is delighted. The Spaniard did everything he could to convince Havertz that a move to Arsenal was best for him and the player agreed.
Havertz believes that playing for Arteta and Arsenal was the best project, not just in England, but throughout the whole of Europe.
Havertz thinks Arteta’s style, ideas and plans will only help make him a better player. Interestingly, a lot of Arsenal’s players have been messaging Havertz. [@FabrizioRomano @caughtoffside via @karthikadhaigal]
Mikel Arteta on 2022/23 title race: "The achievement was winning it. This is Arsenal and the standards are high. To this day, it still hurts me deeply not to have won the Premiership after 10 months fighting with City. But that's sport."
"Having said that, what we achieved with such a young team [Arsenal had the youngest squad in the Premiership] is a merit. That's clear to me as well." [@FIFAcom]
Mikel Arteta on the PSG rumours: "I can only say that I am happy at Arsenal. I feel loved, valued by our owners, Stan and Josh [the two Kroenkes], and I have a lot to do here at this club. I am happy and tremendously grateful to be at Arsenal." [@FIFAcom]
Mikel Arteta - “Talent has a price and, at Arsenal, we are always interested in young players with experience. I repeat, I'm not talking about players from other clubs, but, in the case of Kai (Havertz), he has already shown a lot, including a Champions League. He is a talented, versatile player and only 24 years old.” [@FIFAcom via @karthikadhaigal]
Mikel Arteta: "Three years ago. I was Pep's assistant at City, we played against Arsenal and I saw that the soul of the club had been lost. There was no enjoyment, no feeling."
"I knew there was the option of, soon after, being in the other dugout and I knew that this club is so big that we had to connect the team with the fans."
"It has been hard to do and undo...and now I feel happy. We have a clear identity, there is unity and we are full of energy. That's the greatest thing. From top to bottom, everyone is pulling in the same direction. We give the fan something to dream about and be proud of. And now, we have to win more." [@FIFAcom via @karthikadhaigal]

The sense until now has been that Declan Rice’s preference is to join Arsenal. He admires Arteta’s football and sources have stressed that he does not want to leave London.
West Ham have been holding out for at least £100m for Rice and it remains to be seen how they respond to Man City’s offer (£80m plus £10m in add-ons).
Arsenal are planning a third bid and are likely to need to counter City’s offer by meeting West Ham’s asking price.
There has been an expectation that they would end up paying over £100m once add-ons were taken into account. Arsenal will not have a problem agreeing personal terms with Rice. [@JacobSteinberg]
