“It's a really tough place to come. They are top side, and when you're watching live, the quality that they have, how they open you up in a second with the quality that they have, it's impressive. So that's why I really value what the team is doing.”

Mikel Arteta is in awe of 'phenomenal' Martin Zubimendi:

"I think when we talk about Zubi, what else can he do? And he can do whatever he wants. It's a bit similar to Declan [Rice’s] qualities.

"We just have to keep unlocking that in his system, in his brain, because he's so good at occupying different spaces, carrying the ball, dribbling, winning duels, and he has a talent when he gets into the final third and into the box.

"He's so composed, he sees the picture very clearly. The picture actually is clearer sometimes than other parts of the pitch and what he’s done today is phenomenal."

Saliba on Zubimendi: “He's a very good player, never under pressure. You can give him the ball, he can have someone on his back, he never feels the pressure. He's so good with the ball and without the ball. And today as well, we saw that he can score as well.

“He scored too many goals this season, to be honest, for a number six? So, yeah, it's good to have him and I'm sure that he will help us a lot to win some titles.”

Saliba: “We want to win everything. I think I'm tired of finishing the season without anything in my pocket. So now we have four competitions. My pocket was empty the last year, and now we want to win everything, Carabao [Cup], FA Cup, Champions League, Premier League. Of course, it's not easy. It’s easy to say it, but we want to prove it on the pitch and we will give everything to win every title.”

William Saliba says his partnership with Gabriel Magalhães is the BEST in the world: “For me, yes. I think we have the best partnership in the world, but of course we have to prove it with the titles.

“Because if we say that we have the best and we win nothing, it means nothing. So we have to win titles and at the end of the season, we will say that we have the best partnership in the world. But we have to prove it on the pitch with titles, of course.”

William Saliba: “The previous years, we learned a lot because we were almost there for the last three years. But now this season we all feel different. The squad is ready. The squad is ready to compete for every competition.

“Of course, we are confident. As I said, it's easy to talk, but we know what we have to do on the pitch. Now we are good, but it's not finished. There are five months left and we'll give everything on the pitch to win every title.”

Reporter to Gyokeres and White: “You have a really good connection since you guys played together at Brighton. Does it help when you're looking for him in the box?”

Ben White: “Yeah, I didn't really look to be fair. I just tried to fire it across.”

“Stronger in every area. When somebody has an injury, they need to come back stronger in certain aspects because that's an opportunity. You're going to become weaker because you don't train, you have the rhythm. You don't have the capacity to sustain certain actions, so you have to be stronger in other areas.”

Arteta on navigating the stacking defensive injuries: “We have experienced that first of all in the front line and then in the back line.

“But we are trying to find solutions to protect our players. The good thing is that players, we ask them to play in different positions, like Christian [Norgaard], for example, or Declan [Rice] and they fulfilled their role immediately in a great way.

“We need to navigate now in the next few weeks through that situation. I'm sure we'll do that.”

At present, there is no urgent need for Arsenal to enter the January transfer market, but that’s not to say Andrea Berta will have the month off — the club will already be drawing up plans for the summer window. [@gunnerblog]

Mikel Arteta on Mertesacker leaving at the end of the season: “Well, it’s been 15 years at the club. We were team-mates, we were friends, we were captains together & we shared an incredible project together in different roles - him as an academy director & me as a manager.”

“He’s someone that I think transmits the values of this football club, its ambition & everything that is related to it in the best manner. We had a great time together & I wish him the best of luck for the next chapter, because I’m sure he’s going to be a success.”

Arteta on Saka: “Every position brings challenges and the opposition learns from you as well and they try to always stop you in the most efficient way and you need to have solutions against each opponent to be efficient and to beat him.

“In this season. He was always creating chances early on, but his numbers have really started to keep coming in recent weeks.

“I think the impact that Bukayo has consistently is remarkable. Very difficult to see a player playing this position constantly doing what he's doing. It's great for the team as well and the players around him to support that. But I think, again, this season has been really, really good.”

Arteta on winning the Carabao Cup and League double with Man City and what it can do for the title charge: “When you get to this stage in the competition, you get to the final and you get over the line and win it, it brings energy, it brings belief. And the sense that everybody is very important and playing part of that.

“So, yeah, I think it's something when you get there and win it, everybody remembers and if not, nobody does. So once you get there, get the job done.”

Arteta if he will look to bring in big hitters in the later stage of the Carabao Cup: “I think in our case, in my case, we cannot do that (rotate everyone) because obviously players have to be available to be able to pick them there.

“I don't believe in players for competitions. I believe that we have competition and we want to compete in all competition with the best moment of the players that we have in our resource and that's what we try to do.”

Arteta to @iamAlexHowell: “The more you are involved in these kind of games, the better because it gives you a nudge. It brings the team a different kind of energy. They sense that the objective is very, very close, and that's a massive motivation for everybody.

“So we know that we are two games away from playing a final. We have to go game by game, and the first one is Stamford Bridge, and we know we have a really tough opponent in front.”

Arteta on Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior on the sense that he wants to prove people wrong: “My motivation was to help the club and transform the football club. That was it, not to prove people wrong.

“In my case, it wasn't a motivation. Obviously, they know him really well because they have worked together with him for a few years now. So they made that decision based, for sure, because of his capacity and because they believe that he deserves and is the best person to lead that project.”
